Touching grass
Landscapes are one of the most popular subjects beginners are taught to paint. Creating the sky, trees, and reflective oceans or lakes. I’m self-taught and naturally grew a fondness for drawing portraits, animals and cartoon characters. I’ve never painted a landscape before! I wanted to get better at drawing backgrounds. This would help with world-building for my characters.
I studied grass, and how people paint fields of grass with depth. I failed many times, focusing too much on details. I learned to keep it simple!

Blending the characters into the background was another skill I wanted to learn. This is where photo studies come in handy! I like to do stylised portrait studies. I'm pretty happy with the results but definitely need to keep practicing.

BRB… touching grass. (” Touching grass” is also a euphemism for going outside, to be grounded by nature. Especially if you have spent too much time indoors).
